Course Main Course

Equipment

  • 3 shallow bowls (for breading)
  • medium/large pot for frying
  • tongs or slotted spoon
  • paper towels
  • serving platter

Ingredients

  • 1 lb medium white shrimp
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • canola oil (for frying)
  • dipping sauce (optional)
  • fresh lemon (optional)

Instructions

  • The first step to fried shrimp is to prepare your coating. You’ll need 3 separate shallow bowls.
-In the first bowl - combine flour, salt and pepper.
-In the second bowl, beat eggs until smooth.
-In the third bowl, add panko breadcrumbs. (For additional flavor, mix panko with seasoned breadcrumbs, or mix with coconut for coconut shrimp!)
  • Once your mixtures are prepared, begin to heat your frying oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Next, bread shrimp by dipping each shrimp in flour, then eggs, then breadcrumbs. Place coated shrimp on a separate, clean dish
  • When the oil is ready for frying, carefully drop the shrimp into the hot oil, frying for approximately 2-3 minutes. Be sure not to overcrowd your frying pot. Cook in batches if necessary
  • Once fried, remove shrimp with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel lined plate to dry
  • Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce and a squeeze of fresh lemon
