While the grill is heating, place trout filets on a clean surface (plate or sheet pan) to season
Drizzle each filet with olive oil, using a pastry brush to evenly coat the filets
Next, season the trout with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and other seasonings as desired
If available, place the trout filets in a fish grilling basket. Alternatively, place the filets directly on the grill grates, skin side down
Grill trout on each side for 3 to 5 minutes until cooked through
You can check for doneness by inserting an instant read thermometer into the fish. The internal temperature should be 145 degrees Fahrenheit
