Easy Grilled Trout

Gear up for a sensational summer meal, with this easy grilled trout recipe. Coming together in less than 30 minutes, this delicious dinner is perfect for weeknight meals or spontaneous get-togethers. 

Requiring just a few staple ingredients, this simple preparation marries the deliciously mild flavor of the trout with grilled smokiness for an unbeatably flavorful meal. 

To get started, make sure your trout filets are deboned and ready to cook. Rinse, pat dry and then get ready to season, grill and serve. 

Ingredients for Grilled Trout

  • 4 trout filets
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste) 
  • 4 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 4 teaspoons of smoked paprika or cumin (optional) 
  • Lemon (for serving)
  1. Begin by preheating your grill on medium/high to about 400 degrees Fahrenheit. 
  2. While the grill is heating, place trout filets on a clean surface (plate or sheet pan) to season. 
  3. Drizzle each filet with olive oil, using a pastry brush to evenly coat the filets. 
  4. Next, season the trout with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and other seasonings as desired.
  5. If available, place the trout filets in a fish grilling basket. Alternatively, place the filets directly on the grill grates, skin side down. 
  6. Grill trout on each side for 3 to 5 minutes until cooked through. 
  7. You can check for doneness by inserting an instant read thermometer into the fish. The internal temperature should be 145 degrees Fahrenheit. 
  8. Serve hot off the grill with fresh lemon. Enjoy!
